Help & guides
How ClipHearth works, written against the app itself. Every page says which version it applies to. Nothing here is on a publishing schedule - pages get updated when the app changes.
Fix a problem
Something isn't working - start here.
- macOS says ClipHearth can't be openedClipHearth for Mac is signed and notarized by Apple, so it opens normally. If macOS still refuses, it is an older copy: download it again or allow it once.
- The browser section won't open on WindowsClipHearth's built-in browser needs the Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime. Here's how to tell whether it's missing and how to install it.
- A download fails even though the video playsWhat to try when the stream is detected but the job ends with an error: rescan, a different quality, Try again, and the diagnostics log.
- The connection dropped during a download or a recordingWhat ClipHearth does on its own when your internet goes away for a moment, what it keeps when it cannot carry on, and how to pick up again.
- "Trial limit reached" - what nowThe trial covers three tasks on this device. Here's what counts as a task, what stays free, what waits for a licence, and what happens after them.
- The app doesn't accept my licenceKeys that look wrong, revoked or expired licences, a computer removed from a licence, a wrong clock, and an activation server that can't be reached.
Getting started
Install ClipHearth and run your first task.
- Install ClipHearthWhich build to pick for your machine, what each installer does, what the first start looks like, and how to verify the file you downloaded.
- Update ClipHearthHow an update arrives, what the update window shows, and what to do when it does not go through.
- Your first three tasksClipHearth runs without a licence for three tasks on your device. Here's a sensible way to spend them.
- Activate your licence keyWhere to paste the key, what the ClipHearth license window tells you, and what happens on a second computer.
Browser & capture
Detection, quality, playlists, live, screen recording, screenshots.
- Record an internet radio stationHow a live audio stream is detected, what Record audio saves, and when to press Stop and save.
- Save just the sound of a pageAudio detection, the original format without re-encoding, and how this differs from pulling the soundtrack out of a video.
- Follow a podcast or a playlistFollowing looks for new episodes of a podcast or a playlist every few hours and saves them into a folder of their own. With a licence they come by themselves.
- Record your screen, a window, or a gameThe Screen recording section records a display, a window, an area, a game, or only the camera or the sound, and finishes the file in the Queue.
- Record a tutorial or a demo of your screen, with your voice and cameraRecord the screen with your microphone and camera, highlight clicks and zoom where you click, then cut it by text and add captions in the same app.
- Blur the room behind you while you recordBehind me: Blurred keeps you sharp and blurs the room behind you in a recording with your camera, with no green screen and nothing leaving your computer.
- Record a call or an online meeting you take part inRecord the call window with the computer's sound and your microphone, or the sound alone, on your computer. Only with everyone's consent.
- Take a screenshot, mark it up, and copy the text out of itCapture an area, a window, the whole screen, or a long page as you scroll, with one key and also in games, and find every capture by the words in it.
- Take a scrolling screenshot of a long page or windowChoose an area or a window, scroll down, and ClipHearth joins everything that scrolled past into one tall picture: a long page, a chat, or a settings list.
- Copy text from the screen, a picture, or a videoCopy text reads the words in any part of the screen, a photo, a paused video, or a locked document, on your computer, and puts them on the clipboard.
- Blur and cover private details in a screenshot before you share itCover private details finds and pixelates e-mails, phone and card numbers, IBANs, and common API keys. It can miss some, so check before you share.
- Make a step-by-step guide from screenshotsCapture each step with one key, number it, point at the right button, blur what is private, and paste the pictures into your document or chat.
- Save a video from a web pagePlay the video in ClipHearth's browser, let the detector find it, pick the quality, and keep the file. Then convert or trim it in the same app.
- Record a webinar while it is liveCheck that the webinar plays as a live stream, record it with Record live, and turn the recording into a file you can share, trim, or listen to.
- Record a live stream while it playsHow ClipHearth recognises a live broadcast on a page, what Record live does with it, and where the recording starts and ends.
- Record a radio programme or a live broadcast at a set timeLet ClipHearth record a stream on its own once, every day, on weekdays, or every week, while it waits in the tray and keeps the computer awake.
Converter
Formats, quality profiles, batches, presets.
- Extract the audio from a videoTurn a video you already have into MP3, WAV, FLAC, or another audio format, one file or a whole folder at a time.
- Convert a WebM file to MP4When to re-encode and when to just change the container, and which settings keep the file playable everywhere.
- Make a video file smallerWhich profile to pick, when to drop the resolution instead, and what actually decides the size of the result.
- Balanced, Small file, High quality - what changesWhat each Converter profile sets under the hood, what CRF means, and when to switch to the advanced settings.
- Convert many files at once, and check them before you startGive a whole set of files the same format and quality in one run, and see file by file what will be copied, re-encoded, or skipped before anything starts.
- Convert every new file in a folder by itselfChoose one folder, a format, and a quality, and the Converter converts each new video or sound file in it once it is finished. Originals are never touched.
Editor
Trim, join, colour, audio, GIF, export.
- Turn a clip into an animated GIFHow the Editor exports a GIF: frames a second, width, a size limit for chats and pages, and what it decides for you.
- Trim a clip, cut a part out, and export itKeep the part you need, or cut a part out of the middle, and export it as a new file while the original stays as it was.
- Join several clips into one filePut clips in order, take just the part you need from each, crossfade or go through black, and export one file while the originals stay as they are.
- Cut the pauses out of a recordingCut out the pauses in the Editor takes every pause out of a talk, a lecture, or a podcast, picture and sound together, keeping a short breath at each cut.
- Zoom in on part of a video and move between placesZooms are blocks on the Editor's timeline: each one zooms in, moves on to more places, quickly or gliding, and zooms out again. Works on any video.
- Let a zoom follow the pointer, and show the shortcuts you pressA recording can keep the pointer's way and, if you turn it on, the shortcuts you press. In the Editor a zoom can follow the pointer and shortcuts show as text.
- Move the camera in a screen recording, and change what is behind youOpen a recording with its layers to move, resize, or hide the camera, show it alone or beside the screen part by part, and blur or replace the room behind you.
- Put a logo or a line of text on a videoThe Editor's watermark lays an image or your own text over the picture, in a corner or wherever you drag it, live in the preview and in the export.
- Put text, a title card, or a logo over part of a videoThe Editor's Text row lays words, a full-picture title, or a picture over any part of a video, fading or sliding in, just as the preview shows it.
- Put an arrow, a box, a numbered step, or a blur over part of a videoThe Editor's Marks row lays an arrow, a box, a circle, a numbered step, a spotlight, a blur, or a pixelation over any stretch of a video.
- Add music, a voice-over, or a new sound track to a videoAdd music or a voice-over as tracks of their own in the Editor, set each track's volume and sync, and let the music go quieter under speech.
- Clean up a grainy, shaky, interlaced, or hissy recordingDeinterlace TV recordings, soften grain, sharpen a soft picture, and take hiss and hum out of the sound, all in the Editor.
- Give several videos the same editsSet up the changes once in the Editor and export them for a whole set of files, one job each.
- Edit a video by editing its textClipHearth writes down what is said, on your computer, and you cut the video like a document: strike out words, sentences, or every ehm and hmm at once.
- Add big word-by-word captions to a videoBurn captions of what is said into the picture, with the word being said lit up, in four looks. The words are written down on your computer.
- Turn a wide video into a vertical clipOne click makes a video 9:16, 1:1, or 4:5 for short-video apps: crop it to fill, or keep the whole picture on a blurred background or between black bars.
- Make an App Store preview from a screen recordingExport a screen recording at the size Apple asks for an iPhone, iPad, or Mac app preview, with the frame rate, codec, and sound track set for you.
- Split a video into partsSave an export as several files: every few minutes, in equal parts, or at marks you set while playing, each part starting exactly on its frame.
- Add chapters to a video and keep them through every cutMark chapters on the Editor's timeline or keep the file's own, name them, and export them in their places after the trim, the cuts, and speed changes.
- Add a title, artist, and cover picture to a sound fileTags and cover writes what music players, phones, and cars show for an MP3, M4A, FLAC, OGG, Opus, or WAV file, without touching the sound.
AI subtitles
Optional and on your computer: add subtitles, translate them, pick a model.
- Add subtitles to a video you already havePick a file and a language, and ClipHearth adds subtitles on your computer: the file's own, a translation, or AI speech recognition (optional, in the license).
- Get subtitles along with a downloadSwitch on Add subtitles in the quality picker and the subtitles arrive with the video: the site's own when it has them, otherwise made on your computer.
- Choose, install, or delete an AI subtitle modelWhich speech and translation model suits your computer, how to measure it, and how to free the space again. Nothing is installed until you ask.

Latest news
All news →ClipHearth 1.7.5: the app in eight languages, scrolling screenshots, and marks over a video
ClipHearth now speaks English, Czech, German, French, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, Italian, and Polish. It starts in your system's language when it has it, and you can switch in Settings at any time. A scrolling screenshot takes a long page or window while you scroll, and Cover private details finds and pixelates e-mails, phone numbers, card numbers, IBANs, and common API keys in a screenshot, read on your computer (it can miss some, so check before you share). The Editor's new Marks row puts an arrow, a box, a circle, a numbered step, a spotlight, a blur, or a pixelation over part of a video. A recording can keep the way of the pointer and, if you turn it on, the shortcuts you pressed, stored next to the recording on your computer, so a zoom can follow the pointer and the shortcuts show as text. Behind me blurs your room while you record, Join can take just a part of each clip, downloads can be paused and resumed while ClipHearth is open, and the Converter can watch a folder and convert each new file once it is finished, never touching the originals. Edit by text now places every word to within a few hundredths of a second. 1.7.6 follows the same day with a fix for restarting in a new language. Existing installations get both through the updater.
ClipHearth 1.7.4: the camera, text, zooms, and chapters on the Editor's timeline
The Editor's timeline gets rows for Layout, Text, Zoom, and Chapters. A screen recording keeps its screen and camera apart, so the camera can sit in the corner, fill the picture, stand beside the screen, or leave for a while, and Behind me blurs or replaces the room behind you after recording. Text, titles, and pictures fade or slide over any part, zooms are blocks that move between places, and chapters stay in place after every cut. Join can crossfade or go through black. The Editor also exports an App Store preview, a GIF under 5 or 10 MB, H.265, and a fast trim without re-encoding, evens out the loudness for podcasts, video sites, or broadcast, and lets music go quieter under speech as much as you choose. AI subtitles save .vtt and the words as text, Settings names files after your own pattern, and a radio programme or a live broadcast can be recorded at a set time. Existing installations get it through the updater.
