Make a step-by-step guide from screenshots
Capture each step with one key, number it, point at the right button, hide what is private, and paste the pictures into your document or chat.
01Set it up once
In Screenshots, tick Open it in the editor under AFTER A CAPTURE, and Save it in the screenshots folder if you want the files. Window in front (Alt+Print Screen, ⌃⌥5 on a Mac) takes just the program you are describing.
02Capture each step
Press the area shortcut (Print Screen, ⌃⌥4 on a Mac) and drag over the part of the program the step is about. Area after a pause gives you a moment to open a menu before the capture.
03Number and point
In the editor, Step number (N) puts a numbered circle where you click, with the next number each time. Arrow (A) points at the button, Text (T) adds a short note, and Highlighter (H) marks a line.
04Hide and trim
Blur (B) or Pixelate (X) for e-mail addresses and names, Crop (C) to cut away what is not part of the step, and Spotlight (S) to darken everything but the button.
05Put it together
Copy in the editor puts the marked picture on the clipboard for your document, wiki, or chat, and the small picture in the corner can be dragged straight into an e-mail or a folder. The Screenshots list keeps every step; search by a word in the picture to find one later, or Send it to a shelf for your other computer.
06Or record it
If the steps are easier to show than to describe, record the screen instead, with highlighted clicks and a zoom where you click.
