Make an App Store preview from a screen recording
Export a screen recording at the size Apple asks for an iPhone, iPad, or Mac app preview, with the frame rate, codec, and sound track set for you.
01Record the app
Record it with Screen recording. For an iPhone or iPad preview, record the simulator's window, which already has the device's upright shape; for a Mac app, its window or a 16:9 area. Highlight clicks and Zoom in where I click show what you tap, and zooms can be changed in the Editor later.
02Keep it between 15 and 30 seconds
Apple takes previews of 15 to 30 seconds. Trim in the Cut tab and cut out the slow parts; the Export tab warns when the length is outside that range, but does not trim it for you.
03Pick MADE FOR
In the Export tab, MADE FOR has Any player, App Store preview, iPhone (886 × 1920), App Store preview, iPad (1200 × 1600), and App Store preview, Mac (1920 × 1080). Choosing one sets MP4 with H.264 at 11 Mb/s, at most 30 frames per second, and stereo sound at 256 kb/s; a video without sound gets a silent track. FORMAT and QUALITY are then fixed.
04A picture of another shape
A picture that does not have the preview's shape gets black bars, or the background chosen in the Format tab, such as Blurred background. Crop in the Format tab first when the app should fill the frame.
05Zooms, text, and export
Zooms on the Zoom row and titles on the Text row work as with any video. WHAT THE EXPORT WILL DO shows a Made for row, and Export to Queue writes the MP4 while the recording stays as it was.
