Clean up a grainy, interlaced, or hissy recording
Deinterlace TV recordings, soften grain, sharpen a soft picture, and take hiss and hum out of the sound, all in the Editor.
01Open the recording
Open the file in the Editor with Choose File, by dropping it in, or from Completed with its Edit button.
02Reduce background noise in the sound
In the first step, Sound, the SOUND TRACK card has Reduce background noise. It takes hiss and hum out of the file's own sound; it is off when the sound is removed or replaced by an added file.
03Deinterlace TV recordings
In the second step, Picture, the CLEAN-UP card starts with Deinterlace: for recordings that show comb-like lines where something moves.
04Soften the grain, sharpen the detail
Soften the grain takes the noise out of a grainy picture, at the cost of a little fine detail. SHARPEN goes from Off through Light and Medium to Strong and works on the picture after any change of size, so a smaller export stays crisp.
05Check the result, not the preview
These are not shown in the live preview; the card says so. Review & export lists everything that will be done, so you can check before exporting, and a short trimmed export is a quick way to compare.
06Export
Export to Queue writes a new file and the original stays as it was. Combine it with Even out the loudness in the Sound step for a recording that sounds even from start to finish.
