Cut the pauses out of a recording
Remove silence in the Editor finds every pause in a talk, a lecture, or a podcast and cuts it out of the sound and the picture, keeping a short breath at each cut.
01Open the recording
Go to Editor and click Choose File, drop the file onto it, or send it over from Completed with its Edit button. It works on video and on sound files, as long as there is sound in them.
02Tick Cut out the pauses
In the first step, Sound, the REMOVE SILENCE card has Cut out the pauses. ClipHearth listens to the file once, and the line under it says what the cut will do, for example 12 pauses cut: 0:42 shorter (5:00 → 4:18).
03Tell it how loud the room is
RECORDING offers Quiet (studio, headset), Normal, and Noisy background. Normal suits most recordings. Pick Noisy background when pauses are not found, and Quiet when words get cut.
04Choose the shortest pause
SHORTEST PAUSE goes from 0.5 to 3 seconds and starts at 1.0. Pauses shorter than that stay as they are; every longer one is cut, with a short breath left on each side so speech does not sound clipped.
05How it works with the other tools
Only pauses inside the trim count. A speed change applies to what is left after the cut, and fades to the shortened result. Subtitle tracks are dropped, because they would no longer match the picture. With a replacement sound file the option is off, since the pauses in that file are not the ones in the video.
06Review & export
The Length row in WHAT THE EXPORT WILL DO shows how much the pauses take off. Export to Queue writes a new file, so the original recording stays exactly as it was.
