Add chapters to a video and keep them through every cut
Mark chapters on the Editor's timeline or keep the file's own, name them, and export them in their places after the trim, the cuts, and speed changes.
01Add a chapter
Play to where a chapter starts and click Chapter in the timeline's toolbar, or press M. A flag appears on the Chapters row under the preview. Double-clicking that row adds another, and so does Add at the play position in the CHAPTERS card of the Export tab.
02Chapters the file already has
A file's own chapters come along when it opens. A screen recording opened with its layers brings the moments you marked while recording.
03Name them
Names are typed in the Export tab's CHAPTERS card: each chapter has its time, which jumps there, a name box, and a cross that removes it. A chapter left blank is saved as Chapter and its number, and when the first chapter starts later than half a second in, one called Start is added at 0:00.
04Move or remove them
On the Chapters row, drag a flag to move its chapter and press Delete to remove the picked one; Clear in the card removes them all.
05What the export keeps
The card says how many chapters the export gets, moved with the trim, the cuts, and the speed. MP4, MOV, M4V, MKV, WebM, M4A, and MP3 keep them. A GIF or a WAV keeps none, and neither does an export saved as several files.
06Copy them for a video's description
Copy for YouTube in the CHAPTERS card puts the chapters on the clipboard as times and names, ready to paste into the video's description, and says when they miss YouTube's rules: the first chapter at 00:00, at least three of them, each at least 10 seconds long.
