Find your way around ClipHearth's video editor
Where everything is when you edit a video in the Studio, the Editor's new name: the start page, the Add rail, the inspector, the timeline, and Export.
01Up to 1.7.7 the Studio was called the Editor
The sidebar item that said Editor now says Studio, and the button in a row of Completed says Open this file in the Studio. The Editor's six tabs (Cut, Format, Captions, Effects, Sound, and Export) are gone: what you add is on a rail left of the preview, the settings of what you pick are on the right, and Export… opens a window of its own. Your files are never changed; an export writes a new one.
02The start page
The empty Studio says Drop videos, pictures, sound or a project here, with Choose files (several at once) and Open a project. START FROM begins with Empty project, which opens the whole Studio without a file: choose the shape (Landscape 16:9, Portrait 9:16, Square 1:1, or 4:5) on Shape and size, then add media, a collage, or a title card on the left, or drop files on the empty rows. The other starts ask for the files and then set what a kind of video needs: A vertical short is 9:16 with a blurred background and opens the Captions page, A photo slideshow puts a crossfade between all clips, Someone talking cuts the pauses out and evens out the loudness, and Clips in a row joins several videos one after another. These are ordinary changes, so Undo takes them back. Continue editing lists your earlier edits: your edits are saved as you work, so close the app, or if it crashes, pick up where you left off.
03The header
From left to right: a line about the file that is open, the Timeline / Words switch (Words is Edit by text: strike a word out and it is cut from the video), Undo (Cmd or Ctrl and Z), Redo (Cmd and Shift and Z, on Windows and Linux also Ctrl and Y), Save project… (Cmd or Ctrl and S), Close file, and Export…. Save a project to keep working later, or with copies of all its files to move it to another computer.
04Add things from the rail on the left
The rail under ADD is grouped as the timeline is: PICTURE has Media, Collage, Card, and Zoom; OVERLAYS has Layer, Text, Mark, and Captions; SOUND has Music and Voice. Media, Collage, Card, Layer, and Music add at once (all but Card ask for the files first) and the new thing is picked, and Voice records with the microphone from the play position. Text, Captions, Mark, and Zoom open their page, where you choose the kind. Chapters are not on the rail: double click the ruler to start one there, or press M. The button at the rail's foot stretches it down beside the timeline. A sound file shows only Music and Voice.
05Whole video: the settings for all of it
With nothing picked, the inspector right of the preview shows Whole video (Whole file for a sound file), a row for each kind of setting with what is set there and a dot where something changed. Shape and size holds the FORMAT card, SIZE, and TURN & MIRROR; Picture holds COLOUR, CLEAN-UP, and SHARPEN; then Speed and fades; Cuts and pauses with CUT OUT A PART, EDIT BY TEXT, and REMOVE SILENCE; Captions; Logo or watermark; Time code; Sound with the picked track, ADD A TRACK, and WHOLE VIDEO; and Chapters and parts with CHAPTERS and SPLIT INTO PARTS. A screen recording opened with its layers also has Camera and recording.
06Click anything on the timeline to change it
A click on the timeline opens that thing's own page: a part of the Video row opens Clip (its card, titled by its kind with Part 2 of 5), a block on a layer opens Layer 1 to Layer 4, a text block opens Text and titles, a mark opens Marks, a zoom opens Zoom with its ZOOM & PAN card, a sound track or piece opens Sound, and a chapter's flag opens Chapters and parts. The arrow at the top of the inspector, Back to what applies to the whole video, returns to Whole video.
07The timeline under the preview
Its rows are grouped: PICTURE holds Video, the cells of a collage you picked, Zoom, and Layout for a recording; OVERLAYS holds Text, Marks, and Layer 1 to Layer 4; SOUND holds the tracks. Chapters are flags on the ruler that you drag to move. Each part of the Video row has a numbered tab in its own colour, such as 2 · Picture: drag a part by it and the others make way. The tools over the rows are Set start (I) and Set end (O) for the trim, Reset, Split (S), Start a cut here and End the cut here (X), and Fit for the whole video in view. L plays and runs faster at each press, J runs back, and K stops.
08While the video is put together
Clips, pictures, collages, and cards on the Video row are put together into one video in the background. When a change takes more than a moment, a small window says Updating the video · 40 % and the Studio waits under it; Cancel, or Esc, takes the change back. When clips first open, the preview says Putting the clips together while you can already work.
09Export in a window of its own
Export… opens the Export window: MADE FOR, FORMAT, QUALITY, Fast trim without re-encoding, the GIF settings (FRAMES A SECOND, WIDTH, KEEP IT UNDER) for a GIF, VIDEO CODEC, WHAT THE EXPORT WILL DO, and APPLY TO MORE FILES with Add files…. Export to Queue sends the job to the Queue (with more files it says, for example, Export 3 files to Queue), and Cancel closes the window. Split into parts is not here: it is on the Chapters and parts page.
10Where the old tabs went
Cut: the trim on the timeline (Set start, Set end), the Cuts and pauses page, and the Words switch. Format: the Shape and size page, with colour and clean-up on the Picture page. Captions: the Captions page, Add › Text, Add › Mark, and the Logo or watermark and Time code pages. Effects: Add › Zoom, the Picture and Speed and fades pages, and Camera and recording for a recording with layers. Sound: the Sound page and Add › Music or Voice. Export: the Export… window, with chapters and Split into parts on the Chapters and parts page.
